Attempt to investigate the repair issue on your own. Take pictures, crawl under the car, look under the hood. By making a good attempt to narrow down where and what may be causing the problem you save those trying to help many steps in diagnosing the problem. Be sure to also include the year, make, model and engine size of you car in your title, along with your main issue.
For example '2003 Ford Crown Victoria 4.6L exhaust manifold bolts rusted off' would be an acceptable post title. On the old one I used a spark plug socket turned with an adjustable wrench, and a 7mm allen key going through the socket to hold the strut stanchion.

Only after I put the new one in did I realize it used a different shaped head on the stanchion.it's not an allen key. On the right is the old one, on the left is the new one, and as you can see it's some kinda flattened round type fastener.
Any ideas?. The issue is that a nut threads onto the piece with the flat end, and using a socket blocks being able to grab the flat bit. 'Why don't you just use a wrench then, so you can grab the flats with a pair of pliers?' Is probably your next question.and the answer to that is because all of this is housed in a 'cup' of sorts, preventing the use of a wrench.editof the setup used for an OEM strut.socket with an allen going through it.
As you can (kinda) see the nut and flat end of the rod are fairly deep in a cup that prevents me from using a wrench on it.
